“As opposed to solar, as long as we have wind here and that thing is turning and the wind is blowing at least eight miles per hour, we
are producing electricity.”
The turbine for the generator was manufactured and installed with help from his former boss, Roger Jeffcoats, owner of Skystream
Distributor.
“Justin decided he wanted to buy one (generator) and put it in his house. But the arrangement was mutual it’s our very first one.
Everything went fine with no problems and all and everything is moving ahead,” said Jeffcoats. “We are making electricity with wind
because wind is free. We’re bringing that into Justin’s house and he’s getting free electricity to use as he wants.”
But an alternative energy investment doesn’t come cheap. The cost to install and purchase a generator from Skystream is between
$15,000-$18, 000, even though consumers should notice significant returns on their investment in about five years, Jeffcoats said.
Jeffcoats will be installing a wind generator outside his own home in about 30 days, he said. “I believe in it that much.”
And this business owner isn’t the only wind energy supporter in the state.
Oklahoma ranks 10th in the nation for wind energy production, according to the American Wind Energy Association. And wind energy
experts predict the state may move up to second by 2030.
“He’s producing electricity right this minute,” said Jeffcoats. “Why should you pay that money when there’s free wind energy out there?”
